I've heard people talking about the Bonus Disk - is it shipped separately (if so..what??)? Because I preordered DaP 6 and got three disks, none of which is called a bonus disk.

LOVE the Dark Star.

The bonus disc was shipped with DaP 6 for those people who ordered the DaP subscription for the year. So if you pre-ordered this individually than no soup for you. However if you ordered the subscription back in December than you should have received the bonus disc.

Well, I preordered, yes. Didn't get the subscription, because I think it's a financially bad plan.

What's on the bonus disk?

It's such a crapshoot. I could get a subscription and then wind up with shows I already own high-quality versions of. Or I could get some real gems, including those bonus disks.

I agree, i am not a fan of the subscription. I skipped the first two times they offered it but got it this year. Mostly because i knew i would purchase the first release and was betting the second and bonus would be from the newly returned 69/70 stash. I figure for the bonus disc and the free shipping, i just need to hit on 3/4 releases to make it worth it. Of course i probably just jinxed myself and we'll get two duds to finish out the year.

I'm really glad I didn't go the subscription route. Everything I'm hearing about this latest release has me thinking it may have been just as well that the tapes remained missing.

Much as I respect dave, I don't always agree with his picks and I'd rather be in control of what I deem to be worthy of purchase than him or Rhino.

Well, to be fair, I love what I've heard from 6. No complaints here. It's just that when you get the sub, you don't know what they have planned. It could be crap, it could be a show you already have an SBD for, and so on.

That's good to hear re: 6...I had heard the missing Dark Star was nothing special and versions of some other tunes were sloppy b/c they were new to the rotation...

LOVE the Smokestack> New Speedway Boogie!!

Smokestack is an outstanding version and NSB spawns itself out of bluesy rhythmic jam. I've never heard it until today and it blew me away.
